If youre planning a vacation youve probably already been offered travel insurance more than once. And if youre like most people you quickly dismissed the idea and went about your business.

But dont be so quick to decide. While travel insurance is not always a good idea, there are times when it can come in handy.

What is covered?

While coverage can vary from one carrier to another, travel insurance policies generally cover:

Trip cancellation or interruption due to weather, sickness, airline bankruptcy/strike, or terrorist activity.

Medical expenses incurred while in a foreign country. If you get sick while on African safari, you may find that your medical plan does not cover foreign care or that the coverage is severely limited.

Baggage and belongings that are lost, stolen, or damaged.

Accidental death and dismemberment if you are seriously or fatally injured while on vacation.

So when should I buy travel insurance?

Well, if you are going on a relatively inexpensive trip that is not likely to be canceled or delayed and you are young, healthy, and not planning on doing anything dangerous then you can probably skip it.

But if you are planning your honeymoon or a once in a lifetime trip, especially to a an area where weather is a concern, you should consider travel insurance. The small investment will be well worth it.

If you are elderly or in poor health youre more likely to need medical attention while on vacation. Likewise if you are planning to take part in potentially dangerous activities such as rock-climbing or cliff diving.

Remember too that you dont have to be doing anything risky to get hurt. You could be taking a lazy afternoon sightseeing drive and get hit by a reckless driver. If that happens, youll be glad you bought some extra insurance.br
Are you planning a trip and are undecided about the necessity of travel insurance? If so, this is the right site to be. You have probably heard dire warnings from fellow travelers and perhaps your own travel agent about the necessity of travel insurance, but is it really so? Since you plan to spend a goodly sum of money on airfare, accommodations, car rentals and other arrangements, it is probably a good idea to insure your trip with travel insurance.

There are a variety of unexpected circumstances that could occur before your trip that would make travel insurance vitally important for you to get a refund of your money. Travel insurance was created to act as a safety net for people whose travel plans were drastically changed through no fault of their own. Whether the airline personnel go on strike, there is violent weather in the locale where you plan on visiting, there is a death in the family, or perhaps an unexpected illness forces you to cancel your reservations, travel insurance ensures that your money will be refunded if your travel plans are not carried out. In addition, there a number of specific areas where travel insurance can be of help to you while you are actually traveling.

Much of the travel insurance is purchased by travelers to cover unforeseen health or medical problems beyond the scope of their personal health coverage. Such medical travel insurance policies are specifically designed to provide medical coverage while you are on your trip. Since many group and individual health insurance plans do not cover you outside of your specific area, or restrict coverage to emergencies only, you might want to look into your regular insurance plan to determine if you would be covered in a foreign country. By purchasing travel insurance, you are guaranteed to be covered in any medical situation that may occur.

Since September 11, 2001, outbreaks of terrorism have plagued many regions of our world. If a terrorist act suddenly occurs in an area in which you have chosen to travel, the airline is not required to provide you a refund if you choose not to travel because of the terrorist threats–unless you have travel insurance. Given the unpredictability of events in todays world, you never know where or when a troubling situation could arise, and therefore, travel insurance becomes a must.

Airline flights can be cancelled at any time, for a wide variety of reasons–bankruptcy of an airline, a pilots strike, inclement weather conditions, mechanical failures, and any number of factors that can not be controlled. In some circumstances, flights are not rescheduled and refunds are not given, which means that you lost not only your flight, but also the money you spent to buy your ticket. Travel insurance insures your ticket and guarantees that if the flight does not depart, no matter what the reason, you will get a refund of the ticket price.

Have you ever lost your bags or know someone who has? In most cases the airlines find and return the missing baggage, but in some cases it is never located. In other cases, it is discovered that items have been stolen from your luggage. In these cases, travel insurance would act to insure whatever items are lost or stolen so that you can replace your belongings.

If you decide to purchase a travel insurance plan, it is important that you research a number of travel insurance companies and plans before choosing one. Travel insurance can be purchased for each individual trip or, for people who are frequent travelers, there are long-term (usually one year) travel insurance plans available.

Be sure your travel insurance purchase covers all the bases, ask lots of questions, and confirm that your policy will cover all unforeseen circumstances of your trip, not just a few specific situations.

Best wishes for safe and healthy travel!/pbr

Like in other parts of world, home insurance is an utmost necessity even for the people in UK. It makes us feel safe, secured and tension-free that our sweet homes are insured.

We all will agree that without our homes we would be like fish out of water. No one can ever imagine of living without a home. But have we ever sat down and wondered what will happen if our homes are destroyed by some natural calamities or the contents of our homes are being burgled? We have to go through a lot of pain to rebuild it or to buy the contents that are being stolen. Therefore, home insurance is a must for everybody; even for all the residents of UK.

Home Insurance in UK along with other countries, is a contract between the insurance company and the insured where the insurance company will pay for some damages done to your building or if something is stolen from your home. These are the basic covers that every insurance company provides. Apart from that, for damages done by natural calamities like earthquakes, flood etc, most of the times you have to pay a little extra to get the added coverage. But the there are some basic covers under home insurance that are provided by almost all the insurance companies in UK. These include:

?The costs of building our homes if some damage is done to the building or some other building like the garage, sheds within the compound of the house; say for instance damages done by fire etc.

?Covers that include if the contents within our homes are being stolen or burgled.

?The next is the liability cover. If someone is injured within the compound our homes, then the costs will be covered under this policy.

There are some things that the insurance company will take care of before providing you with a home insurance in UK. The company will take a note of all the contents of the house that are there in the period when the insurance is signed. Again if your home is near the fire department, you will have to pay lower premium than those whose house away from the department.

Before buying any home insurance from the markets in UK, you have to do some research regarding the amount of cover you want to buy. You should also compare all the quotes of the insurance companies that provide home insurance in UK. With the internet facilities, this work is made easier and less time consuming. You need to just come online and check all the details available at the websites of these insurance companies.

When planning a travel vacation or cruise vacation, the last thing that one wants to think about is trouble or cancellation. Thus travel and cruise insurance is often left on the back burner. However, when the time comes to purchase your vacation insurance, be sure that you compare cruise insurance and travel insurance policies to ensure that you are getting what you expect. As always, it’s “buyer beware”!
That’s not to say that all insurance policies and companies are out to deceive you or hide the terms of insurance pay-outs. In fact, most are very reputable. The problem comes when trying to economize while buying insurance. You really do “get what you pay for” in most cases – especially when you compare insurance policies.
There are often so many variables when purchasing cruise insurance or travel insurance that we can become somewhat complacent with what we are purchasing. Again, “Buyer Beware!” Make sure you know what’s available and what’s included in your insurance policy package. As an example, insurance companies like Travel Guard International, America’s largest provider of travel insurance offers a wide range of benefits with their Comprehensive Coverage. Included in Travel Guard’s packages are the following benefits:
?	Trip Cancellation – Providing reimbursement of 100% of trip cost if the trip is cancelled under the terms of the insurance policy.
?	Trip interruption – Providing reimbursement of trip cost if the trip is interrupted as covered by the insurance policy such as evacuation due to hurricane.
?	Trip Delay – Providing reimbursement for additional accommodations or travel expenses if the traveler is delayed for more than several hours.
?	Lost, Stolen or Damaged Baggage and travel documents – Providing reimbursements if luggage is lost, damaged or stolen while the insured is traveling, or if travel documents are lost or stolen.
?	Baggage Delay – Providing reimbursement for the purchase of essential items if your bags are delayed more than 24 hours.
?	Medical Expenses – Providing reimbursement for necessary medical expenses up to one year after the illness or injury providing the insured traveler sought medical treatment while on the trip.
?	Emergency Medical Transportation – Covering the cost of evacuation and transportation to the nearest adequate medical facility.
?	Travel Guard Assistance – A 24 hour hotline for emergency assistance, medical referrals, prescription replacement assistance, replacing travel documents and more.
?	Livetravel – Travel Guard’s round the clock travel agent service for emergency or last minute travel changes such as rebooking flights, arranging hotels and ground transportation and tracking lost luggage.
?	Concierge – 24 hour worldwide access to restaurant referrals/reservations, event tickets, tee times, floral services, ground transportation and more.
As well, in many cases, travelers purchasing Travel Guard insurance within 15 days of making their initial trip payment also receive at no additional cost:
?	Pre-Existing Medical Condition Exclusion Waiver – protection if pre-existing medical conditions force cancellation or interruption of a cruise or trip.
?	Default Protection – providing reimbursement of trip cost if the tour operator, cruise line, airline or other travel supplier declares bankruptcy more than seven days after the effective date of the policy.
?	Change Your Mind – protection against cancellation fees when a trip is cancelled for any reason.
Please keep in mind that these benefits are subject to change, but at the time of this printing, are available. The above describes a comprehensive cruise or travel insurance policy. However, as they say, one size dose not fit all. You need to match your coverage requirements and budget restraints. Again, dealing with Travel Guard International, some of their popular products include:
?	Cruise, Tour and Travel – Travel Guard’s most comprehensive travel insurance plan.
?	ProtectAssist – Solid travel insurance for the budget-conscious traveler – and Travel Guard’s most popular plan.
?	Cruise Guard – Travel insurance designed to surpass the protection plans offered by the cruise line.
?	Air Ticket Protection – Protects air ticket investment against change fees, adds other assistance services.
?	Student Travel Guard – A portfolio of student travel insurance plans protecting students on virtually all types from Spring Break to Semester Abroad.
We have identified, through the use of Travel Guard International’s plans and policies a vast number of cruise insurance options. We have stated before, but at the risk of being too repetitive, I think that it is important to re-iterate. “You get what you pay for. Buyer beware!”

World travel has become more and more tenuous simply because of a growing range of disasters that can and have struck at the most inopportune moments, making travel insurance an imperative.
Even though you may not be a victim of a tsunami, hurricane or act of terror, you might become embroiled in costly delays or have to outlay for accommodation and medical costs that are not factored into the holiday budget.

Risks associated with travel are on the up and up

The risks associated with local and international travel seem to be on the up and up; one only needs to open the daily broadsheets to be reminded of the growing number of attacks on tourists.

A young French school girl is gunned down in Egypt; the visiting Sri Lankan cricket team is attacked en route to the Lahore cricket ground; and, since the failed ‘War on Terror’, foreigners are targeted on a daily basis by fundamentalists and fanatics. The world is arguably no longer a safe place to explore and it would be remiss of anyone in this day and age not to contact an insurance broker to cover oneself with some sort of travel insurance.

It doesn’t have to be an unmitigated disaster that effectively scuppers your vacation time; you may simply fall ill during your brief stay on foreign shores. Without the aid of your travel insurance partners at the holiday destination, merely finding a reputable doctor or clinic could become a real burden, especially if you do not speak the language.

Medical costs can be more painful than the injury itself

The cost of medical treatment can often turn out to be a major expense if you are not adequately covered. Simply twisting an ankle on the snow-covered slope or having a run-in with an angry bull in Pamplona may very well be painful but, if you are not insured, the costs accrued could turn out to be far more damaging than the injury itself.

Should you be unfortunate enough to get seriously injured, then an emergency evacuation home may be the only option you’d be inclined to consider, which would come at a significant cost. What of the activities, accommodation and transport you have already paid for in full?

Weather delays will become more frequent

Then there are weather delays that consistently put pressure on flight schedules. One of the busiest transport hubs in the world, Heathrow Airport near London, was brought to a complete standstill recently because of unprecedented snowfalls. Experts agree that more and more unusual weather patterns are going to arise as a direct result of carbon emissions and resultant global warming, so if you plan to travel you should be prepared for the unusual.

Personal effects habitually disappear

Luggage and personal effects in transit have a rather mysterious way of disappearing these days, even though security has allegedly been beefed up. One can only assume that there is a Baggage Island out there somewhere, where thieves are harbouring all our missing booty. Although the insured can afford to be tongue-in-cheek about the increasing incidence of theft, the uninsured traveller will not be smiling.

In the words of the Director General of Home Affairs in South Africa, Dr Ayanda Ntsaluba:
“During the past few years, we have assisted a growing number of our people who have become victims of crime, accidents, illness, death, natural/man-made disasters, civil unrest or whose family and/or next-of-kin needed to contact them in an emergency”. That said, all South Africans travelling abroad are encouraged to take out travel insurance.
