To be affected by acne is blight on the teenage minds. These young people experience great disturbance and discomfiture with acne on their skin. The unsightly acne makes them highly conscious of their looks. Sadly, acne haunts people for long periods of time. Most usually, acne develops around the pubertal stage of young people. This condition occurs because of hormonal imbalances that occur with the arrival of menstrual phase. When the hormonal activity increases, the sebaceous glands in the skin start generating excess quantities of oil. A combination of this oil and accumulated dead skin cells facilitates bacterial growth which eventually inflames as acne. It is awkward that acne affects those areas which are readily visible. Often, young people feel distressed as acne occurs on their face at a crucial age when they are ever-conscious about their ‘face value’. In cases of severe acne conditions, the likelihood of permanent scars following the acne cure is traumatic. The emotional disturbance, physical unsightly appearance, possible after effect in the form of scars is reason enough for people to detest and abhor acne. That is why people fear acne and when affected, they do everything possible in order to get rid of the problem at the earliest, taking care that they will not be victims of eventual scars. It is an established fact that acne does not occur due to reasons like oily foods or chocolates; it does not related to skin hygiene or emotional issues. People try to prevent acne employing many means. One most common approach is for people to use cosmetics in order to prevent or conceal acne. The paradox is it is the same cosmetics, which have the potential of aggravating acne. Many of these cosmetics affect skin in such a way that it even triggers acne or and worsen acne condition. They also block the sebaceous glands, thwarting the depletion of excessive sebum. There are other acne-prevention compounds which may also be equally undesirable. In recent times there are several useful ways of treating acne medically. But most of these are useful only if you apply them before any skin mutilation happens. Be sure to do this process only under qualified medical overseeing since you are in a way dealing with manipulation of hormonal system.

And, a unique method to Get Rid of Acne once and for all can be found on my site. Click here to find out how YOU can start re-balancing your body today and start the path to lasting clear skin.

Mineral Makeup Foundation Tips

It seems mineral makeup foundation has become a buzz word these days, so many people decide to give it a try. There is a great deal of disappointment because mineral makeup foundation is somewhat trickier to apply than liquid foundation is. Here are some tips to get that flawless finish.

1. Choose The Best Shade For Your Skin

The best place to test for a match to your skin tone is along your jaw line near your neck. You can also use the fleshy part of your hand or your wrist. If you are unable to do a shade test, then take the sealed jar and match the shade closest to your wrist.

If you are trying to cover up blemishes or uneven skin tones many professionals recommend that you go one to two shades darker. Dont worry unlike cream foundation it wont look dark. Mineral foundation brightens your complexion.

2. Properly Prepare Your Skin

All makeup goes on best when the skin has been properly cleansed and then moisturized. This is especially true with dry skin. You should always let the moisturizer soak in completely. If you have oily skin, rather than a foundation opt for a foundation primer.

3. Around and Around You Go

For the best coverage use your kabuki brush which is a shorter, denser brush. Dip your brush into the mineral makeup foundation, then push the bristles against the back of your hand to push the powder into the brush. Tap off the excess. Use continuous circular motions to apply your mineral foundation to your face, working from the t zone out.

4. Finish it Up

You can use mineral powder concealer where necessary. If you need a little more coverage just dip your flat concealer brush into your mineral makeup foundation, tap the excess off, and press the remainder into the trouble spot.

If your skin is oily you should look for a matte finish, or consider using a mineral finishing powder on top of your mineral foundation. Apply the same way with light, circular brush motions. This will create a pore free natural matte finish. It also helps your foundation stay on longer.

5. Complete the Rest of Your Makeup

Now just finish up your eyes, lips, and cheeks and youre ready to look and feel great.

Its not surprising that mineral makeup has become so popular. With a little practice your mineral foundation and the rest of your makeup will look fantastic.

Best of all its natural and people with sensitive skin seem to handle it well. Of course you should always do a skin test to be sure. Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide have healing qualities which helps to reduce acne. The zinc oxide also dries acne.

There are many different mineral makeup foundation brands on the market starting at around $10, so shop around and find the best coverage and price. Now that you have some great tips why not giver it a try?

Home Chemical Peels: 5 FAQs

Tuesday, 29. December 2009

br
After undergoing years of damage from exposure to the sun and tanning booths, men and women find their skin has become blotchy, wrinkled, or leathery. Chemical peels can remove this build-up of dead skin and stimulate the regeneration process to reveal fresher, healthier skin. Below are 5 FAQs about home chemical peels.

What is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a process where a variety of chemical solutions are placed on the skin to remove the outer layer of dead skin cells. It can be extremely helpful in treating skin suffering from photo aging, sun damage, hyperpigmentation, acne, and rosacea. After a peel, there will be a marked improvement in the appearance of fine lines, as well as in the texture and tone of the skin. Pore size is reduced, blemishes clear, and the skin exhibits a healthier, rejuvenating glow.

Myths and Facts about Home Chemical Peels

Myth: Anyone can administer a chemical peel.

The Reality: Not so. A peel causes an injury to the skin and caution must be taken to not use inappropriate acids or cause scarring.

Myth: All skin peels are the same.

The Reality: Just as skin issues and skin types are very different from individual to individual, so are skin peels – are you AHA sensitive? Glycolic acid and lactic acid must be timed and neutralized and not all skins tolerate as well. Do you have an aspirin sensitivity? Salicylic acid is a form of the same ingredient that is in aspirin. What is your Fitzpatrick? Dark skin will easily hyperpigment if the incorrect acid strength is used – fair skin could burn too much.

Your Best Option: Professional Chemical Peels

There are many contraindications to consider before applying chemical acids to the skin.A professional will be able to assess your skin more appropriately. You would not want a massive outbreak of herpes that could potentially scar your skin!

Three Types of Chemical Peels

There are three types of chemical peels. Progressive peels do not cause immediate exfoliation and remove only the outer layer of skin. With repeated treatments, the skin begins to experience mild sloughing. Mid-depth peels affect the skin to a deeper level, and exfoliation begins to occur within two to three days with light flaking similar to the peeling seen after mild sunburn. There is very little down time with a mid-depth peel. Deep peels affect the deepest intra epidermal layers. The skin will peel in large segments instead of flaking. The skin may become brown and crusty before peeling, which occurs three to four days after application. The process usually takes about seven to 10 days.

Who Can Benefit

Anyone will benefit from a chemical peel followed by home corrective skin care. Results will be most dramatic on those with an accumulation of dead skin cells and photo damage. However, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding or who have been prescribed Accutane in the last 12 months should avoid chemical peels.

By using chemical peels to remove dead skin cells and stimulate the process of cell regeneration, individuals see new, fresher, healthier skin. Almost all find marked improvements in the skin’s tone and texture after a chemical peel. They are also easy, convenient, and affordable.br

Home Remedies For Acne Treatment

One of the biggest misconceptions around is that acne is simply a teenage issue and you will grow out of it. Nothing could be further from the truth. Acne has been a problem for teens as well as adults for ages. Now you can stop acne from ruining your skin and self esteem with easy and natural ways.

Your first step in getting rid of acne at any age is to experiment with different facial applications to see which ones work best for you. Here are some that work great.

With a cotton ball apply lemon juice, apple cider vinegar or white vinegar to your face to kill bacteria. These natural remedies are also used in many home remedies as well.
Cook up some oatmeal and apply it to your face like a mask and let it sit on your skin for 15 minutes a day.
Use a dab of toothpaste on all of your pimples. Toothpaste will kill bacteria and also seal off the area. One word of caution however. Dont use toothpaste on your whole face as it will cause over drying.

Making some minor changes to your diet is another effective way to get rid of your acne for good. Eat more foods with lower levels of fat and oil. Cut way back on your processed sugars. Add a lot more whole grains to your meals. You can also use cucumbers as well as cucumber juice, radishes, wheat grass juice. Dont forget to add in other foods that are naturally rich in vitamin C and E.

While changing your diet will help get rid of your acne in most cases, sometimes acne is an allergic reaction to something you have been using to clean your face with or a food you have been eating. If you are having an allergic reaction to something then the good news is that once you identify the allergen you will be free of acne for good. This is because you will have gotten rid of the cause instead of simply treating your symptoms.

To detect if your acne is from an allergy you will need to do a little bit of detective work. An easy way to track down the allergen is to keep a journal of everything you eat and everything you use to clean your face with. For faster results you can also keep a list in your journal of all your daily activities and your breakouts. Once you detect a pattern with your breakouts you can eliminate what is causing the breakouts and then see the results quickly.

The best way for you to get rid of your acne for good is to have patience, and persistence as you try the above solutions one by one. Because there is no miracle cure, you will have to find what works best for you through trial and error. If you start something new and you dont see results from it, dont give up. Simply try the next idea on your list. Through trial and error you will discover what is giving you acne and then be able to rid yourself of acne for good.

Natural Products And Skin Care

Scan through magazines, check health and beauty stores and supermarkets and you cant miss that skin care is a booming business. There is a huge variety of products available for consumers and each of them offers the same thing. A perfectly beautiful and flawless skin. Or, at the very least, one that looks years younger. But the truth is many of these products are packed with chemicals and may cause adverse skin conditions such as allergies, acne, inflammation and other problems.

So, for some people, opting for the natural way of taking care of the skin is the preferable option. Some beauty labels do market products that contain natural ingredients. But consumers should know that along with these ingredients the products also contain some form of preservatives (to prolong shelf life) and may in fact be carcinogenic. Not only that, but in producing these items, they go through a chemical process that may eventually reduce the effectiveness of the organic material. In the long run, these natural products, sold by beauty industry giants, are often not really what they claim to be.

At the turn of the previous century, cosmetics and skin care products were either homemade or were created by a licensed pharmacist. People in those days used fruit, vegetables and herbs grown in a backyard or garden to treat skin conditions. Just as natural skin care products were very effective in those days, it remains the same today. There are plenty of resources for naturally made beauty products. You can check the internet, your local bookstore or library. And anyone can do the same mixtures or prepare their own kind, based on these recipes.

Going natural has more advantages than disadvantages:

• First of all, it is a lot cheaper than the chemically processed products.
• It is eco-friendly
• The ingredients are readily available, not hard to find
• They can be easily prepared
• You are will know that the ingredients are harmless for your skin
• It provides really effective results.

Below are just some of the benefits of natural ingredients.

Ginseng helps prevent wrinkles from developing and aids in the multiplication of skin cells.

Oats or oatmeal helps smooth and refine the skin. It also has a whitening effect. Oats relieve irritated skin and is good for those with a sensitive skin type.

Floral ingredients. These can be used as sprays or mists and help with the skin tone.

Soy refines the pores and makes the skin softer.

Vegetable Butters (Shea, Avocado, Almond, etc). These help prevent skin from aging. Butter also contributes to the thickness and consistency of the mixture making it easier to apply.

Apple helps in toning the skin and keeping it tight.

Salt and Sugar are good for exfoliating dead skin cells and can also have therapeutic qualities.

Milk Powders provide a soothing effect to the skin. It also gives additional nourishment and moisturizing benefits.

Vegetable oil (from seed extracts) help rejuvenate the skin and also possess moisturizing benefits.

These naturally occurring ingredients are popular with the many people who make their own skin care products at home. And, whilst there are many old wifes tales surrounding the benefits of certain ingredients, scientific studies have proven that such ingredients as Chamomile have demonstrated healing and anti-inflammatory properties when applied to the skin. So if youre looking for a cheap way to take care of your skin or just want to know exactly whats in the lotions and creams you are using then making your own natural skin care products will be a good choice for you./pbr

Tips to Beautiful and Radiant Skin

Sunday, 29. November 2009

br
Skin care does not begin with treatment of skin, acne, pimples etc., as the saying goes Prevention is better than cure, skin care is all about prevention, precaution and proactive damage control. From stores to supermarkets to malls, you would find an innumberable number of skin treatment lotions of multi-varieties promising you the perfect skin tone you have always been looking for. Not surprising though, that only a small percentage of these creams come anywhere close to our expectation, for the very reason that every one of us have different skin tone and textures that require specific treatment.

Water is one of the best ingredients for a good skin. Consumption of good, purified water can make your otherwise dry skin hydrated and keep it in good condition.

If you suffer from any form of insomnia, chronic lack of sleep, or plain sleepless nights, you know why your skin is not reacting to all the treatment you pamper it with. Sleep is crucial to ensure a good growth and skin tone. A minimum of 6-8 hours sleep at night is recommended by physicians.

You must remember that all your cosmetics have a shelf life. Ensure you replace your sponges every three months or if they remain unused, then within six months from the date of manufacture. The average life of any cosmetic usually ranges anywhere between 6 – 12 months.

If you have an oil skin, the simple yet effective way of curing it is by simply cutting a lemon into half. Rub the content of the lemon on your face and leave it for a while. Rinse with cold water thereafter.

Vegetables are a great source for skin toning. You could apply slices of potatoes and apply it on your closed eyes. It not only cools the eyes, it also reduces black circles and enlivens the otherwise dry skin.

Fruits are another good source for the skin. Strawberries for example are renowned skin smoothners. They also are effective acne fighters. They produce a salicylic acid which is usually found in many acne skin care products. For a quick solution, you may want to crush half a cup of strawberries along with half a up of plain yogurt. This mixture needs to be applied to the face; the result would speak for itself. Bananas also contain smoothing ingredients. A ripe banana mashed up and applied over the skin is another short and effective face skin cure.

While we talk about the foods, vegetables and recipes and other natural intakes to invigorate skin care, we should also make mention of the do nots in respect of skin care. Condiments viz., cakes, sugar, fat-free icreams are generically categorized as high glycemic ones. This effectively means that a lot of carbohydrates are digested at the time of consumption. Any high glycemic food intake can trigger off acne.

Consumption of foods with less glycemic content is more healthy for the skin. Food grains, fruits and vegetables can be examples of low glycemic foods.

A proper balanced and controlled diet care is a pre-requisite to pre-empt any face skin related issues.br

The Main Cause Of Acne – Sebum

Sunday, 29. November 2009

Author: CD Mohattabr
Source: isnare.combr
br
Sebum plays the biggest role in formation of acne. If there were no sebum, there would be no acne. To know more about how sebum is responsible for acne and what role it plays, let us study more about how acne forms.

Acne forms near the opening of the sebaceous glands that have hair follicle in them. In normal circumstances, the cells that form the wall of the gland exfoliate from the pore opening. Sometimes, these cells become dysfunctional and instead of exfoliating normally, block the pore opening. This block stops the sebum going out on the skin.

In the meantime, the glands keep producing sebum and if hormonal disturbance is present, the glands produce sebum at a higher rate. This sebum keeps filling the gland sac. That is the beginning of acne.

A bacterium called Proprionobacterium acnes (P. acnes) thrive in the atmosphere that is full of sebum and no air. This bacterium infects the gland. At this stage when the bacteria are flourishing and causing inflammation, the gland is producing more sebum and the pore is blocked, the gland becomes very infective and full of dead cells, bacteria, pus and dead skin. This is what we call as a pimple. When a pimple gets much bigger, it is called a cyst. Now you know that acne is mainly caused by blocked sebum and infection inside the sebum. Let us know more about how and why sebum is produced.

The Latin meaning of sebum is fat. You find that your hair becomes oily if you leave it unwashed for few days, isnt it? That is because of sebum. Sebum is produced by the sebaceous glands in the skin. From there sebum comes out and coats the hair follicles. Traveling through the hair, sebum reaches the surface of the skin. There it mixes with other lipids and sweat and forms a coating on the skin. Sweat, lipids and environmental dirt are other ingredients of the oil on the skin. This oil protects skin from bacterial infection. It also reduces the natural water loss from the skin.

The density of sebaceous glands varies. Sebaceous glands are found most on the forehead, chin and middle portion of the back. That is why most acne is found on these places. Sebum production decreases with age. . Sebum production increases suddenly at the time of puberty. In women, it reduces substantially after menopause. Adult females produce less sebum than men. By reducing sebum production, acne can be cured. Sebum production can be controlled by various medicines.

Skin Care – Truth About Creams For Getting Rid of Dry Skin and Making it Baby Soft!

Saturday, 28. November 2009

Author: B. K. Smithbr
Source: ezinearticles.combr
br
Skin care can be a challenge if you are struggling with extreme dryness and chapping. Are you frustrated with those difficult areas like elbows, knees, and heels that have unsightly dry, rough patches?

Believe me, thats for the birds, or should I say alligators. All joking aside, there is help and you dont have to continue dealing with this problem. Baby soft skin is possible once you learn the truth about creams for getting rid of dry skin.

Watch Out for Harmful Ingredients

If you are like me, you prefer to use natural topical creams for dry skin whenever possible. It seems we are exposed to enough toxins on a regular basis, in which we have no control over, that it just doesnt make sense to purposely buy products with toxins to put additional stress on our bodies.

With new research constantly becoming available, our eyes are being opened to some popular myths about our skin care regimens. For example, consider petroleum jelly. I used it myself to soften up my not so pretty dry feet regularly.

Now to discover it tends to create a seal and prevent toxins from naturally being released. Most manufacturers still load products with mineral oils as cheap fillers, only giving short term results. Yet long term, it is just not a healthy option.

Benefits of Going Natural

The good news is: The latest research and technology is bringing safe, yet effective natural ingredients to market. Keep in mind that just as vitamins and minerals need to be taken in the correct form and quantity to work correctly in our body, the same thing applies to topical creams and lotions.

An added benefit of products using natural ingredients in the correct, active, combination is that they heal more than just dry skin.

I was very pleased to find out for instance that a product called Age Defense Active Body Lotion which is an intense, natural treatment for dry patches, also accomplishes a lot more. Not only is it one of the top creams for getting rid of dry skin, but the same ingredients also powerfully address other issues related to anti-aging and acne.

This is possible because of the synergistic healing properties and the ability to penetrate and go to work below the surface. Things like wrinkles and acne scars begin to fade, which is a real confidence booster.

So there you have it: Put this to the test right away and begin using natural topical creams for dry skin. At the same time reverse the clock and restore that smooth, youthful appearance you once had.
